How to reverse Type 1 Diabetes

by Sean Martu

Diabetes is a very serious health complication, it can lead to many complications such as limb amputation, loss of sight, heart attacks, nerve damage, and cancer. If you have type 2 diabetes, read my article “UPDATE: HOW TO CURE TYPE 2 DIABETES“.

Diabetes is a multifolded condition that must be approached from different angles.

What is Type1 Diabates?

Type 1 diabetes is when your pancreas doesn’t make insulin or makes very little insulin. Insulin aids blood sugar to enter the cells in your body for use as energy. Without insulin, blood sugar can’t enter the cells and blood sugar builds up in the bloodstream. High blood sugar is extremely damaging to the body and causes many of the symptoms and complications of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is less common than type 1, only about 5-10% of people with diabetes have type 1.

OK, So how to we Reverse Type 1 Diabetes?

Whether you have Type 1 or 2 diabetes, you first developed insulin resistance, which could have festered for decades before you developed diabetes. First, you must address insulin resistance, see my article “HOW TO REVERSE INSULIN RESISTANCE“.

2nd, you must regenerate your insulin-secreting B-cells in your pancreas. There are only two natural substances that I have found research that have this ability, Black seed oil/powdered Black seeds and vanadium(vanadyl sulfate).

Powdered Black seed/Black Seed Oil

The research article Potential health benefits of Nigella sativa on diabetes mellitus and its complications: A review from laboratory studies to clinical trials states-

Proposed antidiabetic effects of NS. NS attenuates insulin secretion by ameliorating β cell proliferation and improves the structure of the islet of the pancreas. In the small intestine, NS agents delay the digestion and absorption of food because of the inhibitory activity of α-amylase and α-glucosidase. NS also modulate SGLT causing less glucose absorption in the jejunum epithelium and activating GLUT4, which is associated with increased glucose absorption in skeletal muscle. NS also alleviates insulin resistance by activating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, which promotes GLUT4 biogenesis and translocation. NS also decreases hepatic gluconeogenesis by reducing its precursors.

The research article Black Seed Thymoquinone Improved Insulin Secretion, Hepatic Glycogen Storage, and Oxidative Stress in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Male Wistar Rats states-

The diabetic group treated with oral NSO 2 mL/kg showed marked increase in number of islets throughout the pancreas, and most of them demonstrated recovery of their normal morphologic features comparable to those of the islets of the control group (Figure 1(d)).

Analysis of the mean diameter of pancreatic Langerhans islets among the studied groups showed a significant (P < 0.05) reduction in the mean diameter in the diabetic rats. Oral treatment with NSO (2 mL/kg), for one month, significantly (P < 0.05) increased the mean diameter of Langerhans islets compared to that in the diabetic nontreated group (Table 4)…The livers of the diabetic animals showed ballooning degeneration, mild portal inflammation, and interface hepatitis (Figure 2(c)). Sections of liver tissues from diabetic animals treated with Nigella showed restoration of the normal hepatic architecture with marked reduction of portal inflammation and absence of interface hepatitis…Based on the current results, NSO was found to be an effective protection against the adverse consequences of STZ-induced diabetes in Wistar rats. NSO exerts its effect through thymoquinone antioxidant potential, which improved pancreatic and hepatic integrity, thus increasing pancreatic islet immunoreactivity, therefore increasing the serum insulin level, increasing hepatic glycogen content, reducing the elevated blood glucose level, and counteracting diabetic dyslipidemia.

In the research article A nutraceutical combination of Cinnamomum cassia & Nigella sativa for Type 1 diabetes mellitus, it states:

Combination of Nigella sativa & Cinnamomum cassia extracts significantly normalized plasma glucose levels, lipid profile and kidney function parameters, compared to the diabetic control group. Animals treated with the combinatorial extract and metformin showed more prominent effects on these parameters. Significant reversal in the pancreatic cell damage was observed on treatment with NSCCe.

The research article Nigella sativa Oil Has Significant Repairing Ability of Damaged Pancreatic
Tissue Occurs in Induced Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus states-

The present study have shown that NSO produced a significant, consistent and time-dependent decrease in
blood glucose levels and elevate insulin level production in STZ-T1DM induced diabetic rats compared with the untreated diabetic animals…From in vitro study, scientific investigations to the isolated pancreatic Islets of Langerhans have proven that the N. sativa direct stimulation of insulin release [26].

Vanadium

The research article Long- term Efficacy and Safety of Vanadium in the Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes states –

RESULTS: The daily doses of insulin decreased from 37.2 ± 5.5 to 25.8 ± 17.3 units/day and at the same time the mean FBS decreased from 238 ± 71 to 152 ± 42 mg/dL. Meanwhile, there was a decrease in plasma total cholesterol without any change in triglyceride level. No significant clinical or paraclinical side effects, with the exception for mild diarrhea at the beginning of treatment, were observed during 30 months therapy.

The research article Vanadium and Diabetes states –

We demonstrated in 1985 that vanadium administered in the drinking water to streptozotocin (STZ) diabetic rats restored elevated blood glucose to normal. Subsequent studies have shown that vanadyl sulfate can lower elevated blood glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides in a variety of diabetic models including the STZ diabetic rat, the Zucker fatty rat and the Zucker diabetic fatty rat. Long-term studies of up to one year did not show toxicity in control or STZ rats administered vanadyl sulfate in doses that lowered elevated blood glucose. In the BB diabetic rat, a model of insulin-dependent diabetes, vanadyl sulfate lowered the insulin requirement by up to 75%. Vanadyl sulfate is effective orally when administered by either single dose or chronic doses. It is also effective by the intraperitoneal route.

The research article Long- term Efficacy and Safety of Vanadium in the Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes states-

METHODS: Fourteen type 1 diabetic patients received oral vanadyl sulfate (50 – 100 mg TID) for a period of 30 months. Fasting blood sugar (FBS), lipid levels, hematologic, and biochemical parameters were measured before and periodically during the treatment.
CONCLUSION: Vanadium is effective and safe for long- term use in type 1 diabetic patients.
Most importantly, VOSO4  treatment of diabetic rats increased in a dose-dependent manner the number of insulin immunopositive beta cells as distinguished from diabetic untreated group, suggesting that VOSO4 can generate the beta cells in STZ-induced diabetic rats.

Conclusion

I have one type 1 diabetes friend, and one pre-diabetes friend with erectile dysfunction. The type 1 diabetes friend is taking vanadium, magnesium, and chromium, and her blood glucose normalized within a few days. Prior to her taking this regimen, she was solely on insulin and testing periodic 200 mg fasting blood glucose levels. The second friend, whom I do not see to often, did not report his blood levels, but he told me his erectile dysfunction left, and how he felt physically and mentally dramatically improved.

Typically taking  1/2 teaspoons of powdered black seeds or 1 teaspoon of black seed oil twice daily should alleviate most conditions.
