I had no idea what hypothyroidism was four years ago. A friend of mine who ran a couple of miles every other day, and had the body of a Hustler model ended up in the ER one morning. When she came out, she was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. The doctor actually misdiagnosed her, later down the road she discovered she actually had Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism, but I’ll elaborate on that later.
The doctor informed her that the reason she had developed hypothyroidism was because of her diet, identifying processed foods, white bread, and sodas as the main culprits. The doctor was right, but she didn’t have “regular” Hypothyroidism as I mentioned earlier, but Hashimoto’s.
Let me explain what Hypothyroidism is before I get into the rest of my friend’s story, and the cure regimens.
What exactly is Hypothyroidism
Simply put, Hypothyroidism is a condition where the thyroid is not producing enough thyroid hormones. There are different causes for Hypothyroidism, but the main culprits are autoimmune disorders(Hashimoto’s), hyperthyroid treatments, and the much less talked about Potassium Bromate.
What is Potassium Bromate?
Potassium Bromate is a dangerous chemical food additive linked to many health conditions, such as kidney and nervous system damage, thyroid problems, gastrointestinal discomfort, and cancer. It’s banned in the European Union, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Nigeria, South Korea, Peru, Sri Lanka, China, India, and a few other countries. But in the United States of America, it’s legal for the corporate food industry to use in processed foods.
It’s commonly used in flour to make finished bakery products whiter and fluffier, it also helps speed up the baking process, which in turn helps the corporate food industry save money.
To note, Potassium bromate has the same harmful chemicals as brominated vegetable oil(I’ve seen this ingredient in sodas). Personally, when reading the ingredient labels of foods, I blacklist anything with the word ” bromate”. I also do not buy bread produced by the corporate food industry, I always buy bread from local Italian, French or Eastern European bakeries.
See my article, “The dangers of Potassium Bromate“.
What does the Thyroid do?
The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate the body’s metabolic rate, brain development, heart, digestive function, muscle control, mood, and bone maintenance. The health of the thyroid depends on having a diet that includes foods with iodine.
What are the Symptoms of Hypothyroidism?
- Fatigue
- Poor concentration or feeling mentally “foggy”
- Dry skin
- Constipation
- Feeling cold
- Fluid retention
- Muscle and joint aches
- Depression
- Prolonged or excessive menstrual bleeding
- fatigue
- intolerance of cold temperatures
- low heart rate
- weight gain
- reduced appetite
- poor memory
- depression
- muscles stiffness
- infertility.
If left untreated, Hypothyroidism can lead to Goiter, Heart problems, Mental health issues, Peripheral neuropathy, Myxedema, Infertility, and Birth defects.
So what happened to my friend?
When she was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism the doctor basically informed her that her life was over and that she was going to suffer from a boatload of life-altering symptoms, that she could no longer eat certain foods, and that she’ll have to take Levothyroxine(Hypothyroid drug) for the rest of her life.
Even though my friend accepted taking Levothyroxine, she didn’t accept the doom and gloom parroted by the “doctor”, she immediately started to research try every natural treatment she could find.
For four years, she tried all kinds of natural treatments and nutritional supplements, there was improvement, but none of them healed her thyroid. They didn’t work because she was trying to treat general “Hypothyroidism” instead of Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism, which she later found out she had.
This is where the tide turns, this is where she found the cure, believe it or not, it started with a flea infestation in her kitchen. A friend of hers told her that food grade Diatomaceous Earth rids pets of flea infestations, and it also worked in and around the house. She bought the Diatomaceous Earth, and it indeed rid her house of the flea infestation, but something inside of her, maybe her spirits guides or maybe Source egged her on to dig deeper into this stuff. So she started to do more research, and she found quite a few anecdotal blog posts of people claiming to have healed “leaky gut”(the cause for literally every autoimmune condition), which in turn healed their autoimmune diseases.
So she took the dive and tried it out.
What happened next was miraculous!
I forgot to mention that my friend had developed an addiction to Levothyroxine, if she missed a dosage she would begin to shake in the hands, have shortness of breath, and panic attacks.
She started with a teaspoon of Diatomaceous Earth once a day in water on an empty stomach, gradually moving to a tablespoon after a few days. After five weeks of ingesting Diatomaceous Earth, she experimented by stopping intake of Levothyroxine.
It’s been 4 months since that day, and she has not taken one dosage of Levothyroxine. She doesn’t have any Hypothyroid symptoms, and she eats whatever she wants. See my article “My first two weeks ingesting Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth“.
How did the Diatomaceous Earth do this?
Diatomaceous Earth is like an intestinal Liquid Drano, it removes intestinal parasites, candida, heavy metals, and pathogens. It basically removes everything that causes “Leaky Gut“, and everything that blocks nutrition absorption. Once cleaned, the intestines can fully absorb life building nutrition from food and supplements, and the silica from the Diatomaceous earth( it’s 85% silica), to heal and rebuild the body.
What other nutritional support did my friend take that helped?
She took one brazil nut a day. One brazil nut has 250% of the RDA of selenium, and selenium is integral for healthy functioning thyroid. She also daily ate dried nori seaweed, which is moderately high in iodine. Don’t eat Kombu dried seaweed, as it’s too high in iodine, and you risk iodine overdosing by ingesting it daily. It’s always better to get nutrition from nature, rather than a laboratory if possible.
Many medical professionals do not advise Hashimoto sufferers to supplement with iodine. Reasoning that the thyroid is inflamed, and that ingesting iodine would cause more inflammation because the inflamed thyroid must process the iodine, further deteriorating the thyroid.
What about Hypothyroidism that is not Hashimoto’s?
People with Hypothyroidism or Hashimoto Hypothyroidism should take powdered black seeds.
I found articles on PubMed, that state that 1/2 a teaspoon daily of powdered black seeds for eight consecutive weeks significantly increased T3 and T4 production in the thyroid. Pubmed articles; First, Second, Third.
Many endocrine issues are actually pituitary issues, and powdered black seeds heal the pituitary gland, which in turn puts the other endocrine glands in healthy working order.
You can buy Diatomaceous Earth on my website in 12 oz or 1 lb bags.
You can purchase Powdered Black Seeds directly from this site here. If you don’t get the powdered black seeds from me, make sure you get them organic. If they are not cultivated organic, they will not have the same chemical composition, therefore they will not have the same healing properties.

I am very interested in taking the DE, but one of the Facebook groups says if you have diverticulitis then you can not take the DE
I have been researching and haven’t gotten a clear answer as of yet can you help.
I don’t know, there’s really no information outside of what people tell you in terms of Diatomaceous earth effect on people. But what I can tell you is that there’s different grades of diatomaceous earth I made a series of five videos on YouTube. You have to get diatomaceous earth that is white all the way through are cream-colored, the darker the color the more ineffective it will be and it can cause constipation. I would watch all my Diatomaceous videos and read the articles I wrote and just try it you can get the diatomaceous earth for me or Grandpa what’s the highest quality Brands I know out there.
I just wanted to say that I was pleasantly surprised to find your blog and have not found one piece of health advice that I disagree with yet, and I have been doing a lot of research this year. Although diatomaceous earth does not clear out parasites that are widespread throughout the body, it is certainly healing and I had normal stools after I started taking it for the first time in years. I also agree that it is important to pick the right quality of d.e. I made the mistake of leaving metal spoons in mine…have you tried bentonite clay? Over 200 cultures incorporate it and most animals according to “the clay cure.” I also strongly recommend activated charcoal along with d.e. to prevent herxheimer. I know black seed oil in arabic culture was basically the neem of the middle east, a cure-all. Thank you for your research and I will continue to do mine.
Thank you.
All parasites throughout the body have their home in your intestines if you clean them out from the intestines they will die out in other parts of your body. For instance if yeast overgrowth causes skin discoloration on your face by taking a high-quality brand diatomaceous earth internally will fix the skin discoloration. Oil of oregano is also good for body wide psrasites.
I actually have some bentonite clay but I’ve never tried it
Taking the BSP & DE. Is this long term for the hypothyroidism or does it kick it back into full functionality
You just take it for a while then your thyroid starts working then you don’t have to take it anymore
How does all this apply to people who’s gland was treated with radiation back in the day when that’s how they treated an inflamed, tumorous gland?
That I don’t know
