Top 300 ORAC Values: Antioxidant Values of Foods & Herbs

by Sean Martu

Antioxidants to me, outside of basic nutrition,  should be the most important part of the western diet. Why you ask? Because everything in our society from our processed food and its harmful chemical additives, modern drugs, the water we drink, fried foods, alcohol, tobacco smoke, pesticides, air pollutants, radiation, is attacking our bodies by way of free radicals on an atomic level by creating cellular oxidation.

But beware, research has found some synthetic antioxidants to be dangerous to humans. There is a major difference between natural and synthetic antioxidants, so definitely stay away from them. My advice is to get your antioxidants from whole foods, and not supplements, unless they are whole food derived powders or purees.

Below I’ve provided a list of of the top antioxidant foods and herbs that you can use to create a personalized free-radical busting diet.

The top 300 antioxidant values of foods & herbs listed are expressed in ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) units, a unit of measurement for antioxidant content which was originally developed by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The ORAC values are sorted from highest to lowest, and imply a higher measured amount of in vitro antioxidant activity. Each number represents the amount of antioxidant capacity(µmol TE)/100g.
